General secretary xi jinping delivers a speech on behalf of the 18th CPC central committee at the opening of the 19th national congress of the communist party of China (CPC) at the great hall of the people in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 18, 2018.

The general secretary's report, which lasted about three and a half hours and over 30,000 words, attracted worldwide attention. In the great hall of the people, warm applause rang out more than 70 times.
Over the past two years, the "artificial intelligence" boom has been constantly called, general secretary xi jinping also mentioned the concept of "artificial intelligence" in the report.
General secretary xi jinping said: "deepen supply-side structural reform. In building a modern economic system, we must lay emphasis on the real economy, take improving the quality of the supply system as the main focus, and significantly enhance the quality advantage of China's economy. We will move faster to build China into a manufacturing power, accelerate the development of advanced manufacturing, deepen the integration of the Internet, big data, artificial intelligence, and the real economy, and foster new growth areas and new drivers in areas such as high-end consumption, innovation-driven development, green and low-carbon development, the sharing economy, modern supply chains, and human capital services. We will support the upgrading of traditional industries, accelerate the development of modern service industries, and raise standards in line with international standards. We will promote Chinese industries to the middle and high end of the global value chain and foster a number of world-class advanced manufacturing clusters."

How important is artificial intelligence?
Since last year, artificial intelligence has become the new favorite in the technology circle. Other technologies, such as VR and AR, seem to go quiet after a short time.
In a sense, artificial intelligence provides a new energy for the economic development of this era and creates a new "virtual labor force".
The application of artificial intelligence technology in all walks of life has been everywhere: in the production and manufacturing industry, artificial intelligence technology can greatly improve production efficiency, save labor costs, improve product quality; In the service sector, existing products and services can be optimized to improve their quality and labor productivity. In addition, fields such as finance and health care are booming with the addition of artificial intelligence technology, which makes people's life more convenient.
If ai's importance isn't apparent at this stage of development, the statements made by tech giants about it are a sign of its importance in today's tech landscape.
Just last month, jack ma, the chairman of alibaba, made a surprise remark that the ai revolution could trigger a third world war. Tesla CEO elon musk made the same point, warning that countries like China and Russia will have strong computer science capabilities, will compete at the national level for strong artificial intelligence, and will likely trigger world war iii.
That's just an entrepreneur's perspective on ai, and Russian President vladimir putin's comments may have more international resonance. Putin has told the media that artificial intelligence is the future of the entire human race, which will provide great opportunities, but also some unpredictable threats. Whoever becomes the leader in artificial intelligence will rule the world.
Although putin claimed that he does not want any one person or country to win a monopoly in this field, he hopes that countries can share artificial intelligence technology with each other and develop together. However, in fact, the artificial intelligence competition among countries has started, and the development of artificial intelligence technology has already become an important part of the national comprehensive national strength.

The AI layout of the tech giant
In the face of the boom in artificial intelligence, global technology giants such as Google, Microsoft, amazon, Facebook and China's BAT have all maintained their keen sense of smell and increased their investment in this field. What layouts did they make to share the main course?
As the leader of the tech world, Google's corporate trends have been closely watched. In 2016, Google announced that its overall strategy shifted from "mobile first" to "artificial intelligence first". In may, Google announced at its developer conference that it was going to turn every bit into artificial intelligence, the core driver of a host of new products and services.

Microsoft has set up a new Research lab focused on artificial intelligence, Microsoft Research AI. For this AI craze, Microsoft has staked its own stakes and is actively pushing AI from all sides. Today, Microsoft's chatbots, computer vision algorithms and voice recognition are all in the game.

Amazon has become the first cloud service provider to introduce ai technology to cloud storage services to protect data security after the introduction of ai technology. Although compared with Google and Microsoft, amazon is slightly low-key, but as the world's largest public cloud service provider, the massive data resources on amazon's cloud provide a strong support for the development of artificial intelligence technology. As it makes a fortune, amazon is quietly making inroads into artificial intelligence.

Similarly, Facebook, a social media startup, has a big advantage in data interaction. While Facebook's "AI out of control" episode and CherryPi's loss to an amateur programmer in starcraft left the company in tears, people can still see how the company has pushed AI from multiple industries.

To say that the most suitable for the development of artificial intelligence in China's enterprises, baidu has the largest data flow, is naturally in the right. In may, baidu CEO robin li shouted: 'baidu is no longer an Internet company, but an artificial intelligence company, baidu will be All in AI' slogan. In just four months so far, baidu has added more than $30 billion to its market value. There is no doubt that focusing on artificial intelligence will help baidu break the doubt of "lagging behind BAT", which is likely to start a new round of rapid development.

Another example is alibaba, which announced the launch of the NASA program in March this year. At the recently held 2017 hangzhou yunqi conference, it formally announced the establishment of the global research institute "dharma institute" to conduct various researches, among which machine learning will be the research focus.

Tencent has launched game AI, social AI, and content AI to find AI landing scenarios. For example, the launch of "unique skills" in the go field, the launch of an intelligent voice assistant App, and the launch of a medical imaging laboratory in the medical field, which can be used to identify esophageal cancer. At present, the financial business is one of tencent's most integrated ai business.

In addition, jingdong, huawei and other technology companies, are also in the field of artificial intelligence betting. Clearly, the tech giants are on the same page about the importance of laying out artificial intelligence.

China has entered the golden age of artificial intelligence

China's artificial intelligence starting time is not as early as the United States, Japan and other countries, but the starting strength is not negligible.

As early as this year's two sessions, artificial intelligence was written into the government work report. In July this year, the state council released the "development plan for the new generation of artificial intelligence", which is a national effort to seize the commanding heights of artificial intelligence.

In addition to policy support, China has also laid a solid foundation in terms of talent reserve and research achievements in the field of artificial intelligence.

According to the data, Chinese authors accounted for 43% of ai papers published in the world's top journals in 2015. Meanwhile, according to a report released last year by the wuzhen think tank, the number of ai patent applications and licenses in China surpassed that of the United States in 2012. Once seen as a mere "copycat", the Chinese are now at the forefront of the world.

In terms of talent reserve, China is also not lagging behind. The huge population base has created countless ai talents, and a large number of foreign elites are also attracted by the favorable development environment of ai in China. Their participation is gradually improving the overall strength of artificial intelligence in China.

All in all, China has both the foundation for developing artificial intelligence and the market for transformation and upgrading. A late start does not necessarily mean a slow start. China, which has been late to the race, is growing stronger and catching up with the rest.

From the fruitful achievements of BAT and other domestic giants, to the huge market of hundreds of billions of dollars, and then to the heavy burden of patent papers, it can be seen that China has entered the golden period of artificial intelligence development.
